Getting this camera was one of the best decisions I’ve made to improve my workflow. It’s very easy to use with the phone app. I use it wirelessly for live-streaming content on YouTube and Twitch, collaborating remotely with other musicians, and I also use it wired with Zoom to teach music lessons. I was hesitant at first because I am a photographer and I am picky with the products I get, but this one totally surprised me positively.

I think this camera is very versatile and you can hook it up to pretty much anything. A tripod, a mic stand, a table stand. It’s been really useful to get those overhead shots that are so complicated to set up without the proper equipment.

The Mevo Start impressed me with the pristine video and audio quality. It has the perfect wide angle image as well as a dedicated array of mics that sound as good as most pro audio recorders out there. It’s awesome to get all these perks in one single package. I’ve had this camera for less than a month and I find myself using it every day now.

Totally recommend it for anyone who’s looking to level-up their video production skills or live-streaming setup.

Our Church is looking to stream Christmas Services. The issue was, how and within budget. The Mevo delivers exactly what we need: a) simple to set up b) simple to operate c) simple to stream d) simple to live edit e) acceptable broadcast quality.

The online tutorials are helpful and it took about an hour of trial and error to get the Mevo up and running.

The sound quality generated when the camera is placed two or three metres from a presenter is really good. A Soft spoken reader five metres away could be heard – just

The Mevo camera is expensive but well made. Importantly it exactly meets its function. Highly recommended

Great for streaming church services. You can’t get anything better for money.

Its a bit restrictive in that you can only use it in wireless mode with an iOS or Android device. Cannot be used in wireless mode with a Windows PC or a Mac/Macbook. Also if you want to have the facility of introducing graphic overlays/ Powerpoint etc over your video image they want you to take out a Vimeo regular subscription which isn’t cheap. Managed to overcome the difficulties, albeit in a cumbersome fashion using the RTMP interface in the Mevo App. Good functionality available in the Mevo App for manual/auto panning.

Got this for online church services out of necessity,
Pros: Wifi (no cords needed). Good microphone doesn’t require anything extra (for us anyway). Easy to use off the phone app.
    Cons:
Does not zoom enough to be effective at a distance. We have to put ours on a tripod at the front of the auditorium because it can’t zoom enough for the back (about 50 feet).
Asks to update firmware EVERY time we use it.
Cannot be used for Youtube live.
The vimeo recommended website/service is a rip off and very difficult to use.

While the introductory price on this was announced as $299, once it was released it was selling for $399. Pretty pricy, but it works very well as a wireless camera, though $399 is a steep price. The control app on the phone works very well and the picture quality is excellent, unless you zoom in 3x right at the edge of the picture. In my case I can see lens distortion on one side of the lens.

I’ve never run out of battery and often leave in running for 3+ hours. We use it for outdoor worship services and feed the audio from the outdoor mixer directly into the camera. We set the camera on NDI mode and feed it into OBS Studio on a computer in the building, separated from the outdoor service, where we produce the program. Audio and Video remain in sync and audio quality is good. The camera will automatically adapt to mic level or line level input on the input jack.

To use in NDI mode with OBS you can install the free NDI Tools package that is available on the web or a driver just for OBS that can find NDI sources. The NDI Tools package has a side effect that you can make the NDI source appear as a webcam and use it with programs like zoom.

One thing that I do NOT like: to use the titling overlay feature, you need to have a Vimeo Premium Subscription which is very expensive if you don’t want to use Vimeo. In speaking with support they acknowledged this, but said that was a condition of the deal when Mevo separated from Vimeo. So we use OBS for overlay titling instead. Too bad…you should not have to pay $20/month more for titling after you pay $399 for the camera!

This camera is wonderful! I got it for my church to live-stream services. I had the GoPro Hero Black 8… turns out it wasn’t my hero! The GoPro resolution could not be set, had TONS of trouble connecting and sometimes not at all! Would not lock in to FB connections and don’t get me started on the annoying fisheye effect. It’s good for photographers, but not for live-streams. However, the Mevo Start is my new friend! Take the resolution down to 480p 5 hour battery life! Picture in picture on phone or iPad, gain setting and Audio graphics to make sure your audio isn’t maxed out. Locks all settings and works every time!!! Worth the money and I’m selling the GoPro!

I bought this camera for live streaming of services and messages for the church I belong to. It is easily connects to the internet , gives a clear picture and sound. It can be controlled from a smart phone or tablet – to zoom in, crop etc.. We have connected it to broadcasting software. It is light and portable and is easy to attach to a tripod or microphone stand and has a great angle of view. People from church have commented that the broadcasts make them feel as if they are at church. A great investment. Looking forward to when the software is updated and we can run two of them at the same time from differnt angles.

This camera is designed for specifically for streaming. For my viewers it works well and as intended. I use it for FB Live, church services each Sunday. Most of my are viewing on small screens, i.e. smartphones and tablets. For this purpose it works well as 1080P. Especially because that is the max available FB Live this time. I enjoy the easy set-up.I look forward to using the NDI features in the future. It is my intention to purchase at least 2 or 3 more, to be more creative when the multi-camera app is available. The very small compact size is also a nice feature because it can be placed close to the subject and not be an obstruction to the onsite audience.

Things I really like about the Mevo Start:
    – No external/extra batteries required
    – Will record continuously without cutting the video in to clips
    – Mobile app control is easy to use and the different views are really nice and is really easy to use
    – The battery lasts at least 4 hours
    – It works with my existing tripods
    – Live feed to Facebook/Youtube is SUPER EASY
    – It’s small. I don’t need a case for it because there’s no accessories needed. It fits in a tiny purse.

    Things I don’t like:
    – After about an hour it starts burning/fading certain scenes (I have a ticket created at Mevo)
    – Even the SD recording looks pixelly and doesn’t look like it’s HD
    – It’s difficult to turn it on and off. You have to hold the power button down for quite some time and you never know if it’s on or off

    + Quality materials
    + Compact size
    + Simple to use
    + Excellent battery life
+ Behringer UCA222 USB interface connects to the USB-c (with a converter) and it powers it
+ Wireless if you want to use the built-in mic which is good (but not as good as my line in via USB)
+ Ability to be used as a wireless webcam

    – App is good but could be better (I’m happy to beta test) as it’s not the most user friendly
    – Gated functionality behind Vimeo is costly and adds little value
    – Additional cost carry case – a free soft case/bag would have been a good addition to the box

I wish it could (but it can’t):
    – Allow mp4 to be played as a separate scene selection in my stream allowing me to have placeholder screens, additional video presentations, music etc

The media could not be loaded.

After doing lots of research, this was bought to live stream services and events held in a church building. I bought 2 and they work with the Mevo Multicam App really well, enabling Pan and Zoo and switching between cameras using the App as well as controlling the sound source and volume. I use a wireless lapel mic connected to one of the Mevo Start cameras for sound from the leader. Other mics can be added even using a mobile phone as the source. Just brilliant.
