I purchased for my GoPro Hero 5 Black. The cellphone holder it came with was just a bonus really. I purchase mainly so I could use it as a quick tote along pole and for the ability to configure to shapes and mount on a tripod. I also own the Smatree SC-1 pole as well, but while it has the longer length and is good for video from a distance away from your body, it does not have the tripod screw mount on the bottom which this does.

The pole is solid construction thanks to the aluminum and it requires you to loosen eat screw quite a bit to get the teeth to release for adjustment. Some might find this a problem, but I like it as it ensures it won’t slip once I have set it. I also like that the tripod can be removed from the bottom so I can just pocket the articulating portion (about 5 inches long folded up) when I don’t want to haul around the SC-1 pole (about 8 inches retracted).

Overall I would say a good buy for the price. There might be better ones out there, but not at the price I’m wiling to pay for a selfie stick.

Interesting idea, but fatally flawed. Aluminum metal is simply too soft as the swivel cam and adjustment joints used to lock it in place are simply not strong enough to deal with normal wear and tear. After 2 months of typical use with my GoPro 7 on my kayak, the metal just gave out to wear I couldn’t tighten the joints down and the screw in the base simply sheared off when tightening into my kayak mount. Should have just bought the more robust RAM mount system.

Well packaged and built very well with high quality materials. It’s very adjustable and what’s great are the teeth that lock the adjustment in nice and solid. It’s pricey but you get every pennies worth!

Love this tripod/pole/monopod/everything else you need it to be! I love this thing because i can fold it up and fit it in my cargo pocket, it’s super light weight, and it’s very strong/durable (you can probably run this over with a truck and it wouldnt break). The phone mount and gopro mounts are both very well made/heavy duty, and you can easily swap the two out. The pole can adjust to almost any angle you would ever need and the tripod legs have some really good rubber tips to prevent it from sliding or moving. Overall im very happy with this pole and for the price i dont think you can find anything better. The only issue i could see is if you have a bulky phone case it might not fit in the phone clamp (mine fit fine). Like the other reviews say, the quality is awesome

The “Smatree 3-Way Foldable Pole/Monopod,” is an amazingly versatile, sturdy, durable, and easy to carry or store mounting accessory. I was enjoying using it both on land and under water while diving on both salt and fresh water conditions. I also fount it very accommodating installed on my motorcycle’s handlebar, over the windshield, and/or about the side. It worked great mounted on my paddle-board as well, allowing me to shift the camera front to back or to the sides… etc… 🙂 Unfortunately, I’ve left it behind, on the boat, after my last dive trip, last summer. I’m about to order it again before the dive season begins.

First of all, this thing is very well designed and the build quality is exceptional for this price range. It’s all aluminum, with toothed pivot points that lock in place with very little tension on the knobs. It also happens to be rather attractive, although that’s not terribly important. The choice of three arms is cleverly executed, so that you can arrange it in an endless variety of angles. The arms can all be folded up in line with each other (as they are in the original packaging) so it’s only about 6″ long (15cm). The fourth short segment which holds the standard tripod screw (1/4-20) won’t fold completely flat, but it only protrudes a little, and I don’t believe the design wasn’t intended for maximum compactness.

From a design standpoint, I would modify the short fourth segment so the tripod screw could be used from either side. The screw turns freely because it has a threadless neck, so when it’s screwed all the way in it becomes captive. Screwing it in from the “wrong” side is possible, but that side has a recess for the knob, so the threaded portion doesn’t reach more than 1 full thread into the camera, light, or whatever is being attached. If this were redesigned so the screw could be used from either side, then one could more easily rearrange the camera position without having to “reverse” the position of the arms. That said, the screw head is nicely machined steel, with a pull-down half-ring so you don’t need to use coins or screwdrivers to tighten and release it.

My only real issue, and it’s not really a defect in any sense, is that the heavy-duty handle / tripod section has no provision for being used as an tripod extension when the legs are folded up. An the tripod itself has only one configuration — fully splayed legs. In other words, the legs are either extended into their widest position, or folded up all the way to form a handle-grip. So there’s no way to adjust the stance or the height when used as a tripod. And when folded up, there’s no way to fasten the BOTTOM of the handle onto another tripod, which would be a great way to get more height from another compact portable stand of some kind.

In short, this is a very flexible (that is, adjustable) and sturdy support for light-weight cameras or lights. It’s small and light, but for GoPros and compact lighting gear I’ve seen nothing to compare. IMPORTANT: This is not a “flex arm” support — the pivot points lock into position, and that’s what provides its unusual rigidity, but that also means you can’t just grab it and bend the arms into new positions like those parallelogram spring-arm drafting lamps & mic holders. Still, it’s so well made that you may spend time just trying to find additional ways to use it.

UPDATE: I ended up returning it because it would always tip over with the GoPro camera on it if I was using the arms much at all.

It’s nice and sturdy and I like it. The one downside is that there is no way to rotate it so that the extension arms are over a leg. If you have it up all the way and sticking out to one side it tips over unless you have a leg directly under the camera.

You can undo the base and screw it in until you get it so a leg extends out where you want it, but that’s lame.

Boy does this come in handy when doing photo shoots! First off, the quality exceeded my expectations. It’s made of some sturdy metal, not cheap plastic! Also, all the attachments make is so versatile. It came with a phone mount, GoPro mount, and a mount for a digital camera. The phone mount is very secure and I didn’t worry about it dropping my phone. I especially love how the pole can be adjusted for all sorts of nifty camera angles. And they hold pretty strong too. I would definitely buy again just because of how high quality this is!
